New Gadget

I splurged on a new gadget. Actually, I splurged about a month ago, but haven't had time to mess with/explore it. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 360 GPS. Did I really need this? Nope and on top of not needing one, I've scoffed at others who have put down big bucks on one. So, I'm eating my words and backtracking on the attitude. A GPS is a fun investment and if it comes in handy once, for me it's worth it.

The model I purchased is one that Garmin is discontinuing to make room for "improved" models. That means the price drop was huge and well within my budget. When it comes to gadgets, I'm pretty tight with my dollars :-)

In addition, this model had all the key points I wanted and that rarely happens for me. I have an idea of what I want and of course it's not on the market and I have to go with the closest. So what was I looking for:

1. small and portable with ability to change from driving routes to walking routes

2. voice (text to speech) that gives street names along with turn right in ?? feet rather than just turn right in ?? feet.

3. Bluetooth compatible. With all the new laws being passed around about talking on the phone figured it would be an advantage in the future.

4. Expandable SD card slot that I'll use with #5 and #6

5. Built in MP3 player

6. ability to add own Points of Interest

It probably has other features I'll utilize later once I figure what they are :-) I've used it a couple of times around town even though I already knew where I was going just to see how it worked. It worked well and was pretty much a no brainer to use. I inherited the family gene that doesn't read directions, we just turn the gadget on and start using it.

I also used it on one short trip that I wasn't so sure of but could've stumbled on...worked like a champ.

My next adventure will be later this month and I'll see if I figured out how to correctly load Rest Area Points of Interest. If I did it right, I'll get a "voice" that tells me I'm within 2 miles of a Rest Area.

Let the good times roll.

By the way, I enjoy the extras you have on your blog - like the Scott Adams quote, the muppet personality test, and your racing references.

I think it's a good idea. We don't have one..but there have been those times when a map just wouldn't get us there. Thanks for all the information!!
