I love the Oval Office set ups that have been (and probably) are in all the Presidential Libraries. Like most libraries, NO flash photography allowed. So, not a lot of pictures. Since I "dragged" my young guys around to all kinds of stuff like this, I really appreciated the interactive activities for even the youngest of visitors. Plus, a special and well done Korean War exhibit was there. Another really great thing was Grandma/Mom's own narrative...this was a President and a time she was a part of, plus adding tidbits about things my grandmother and grandfather (her mom and dad) did and said during this era - way way cool!

I know the goofy tree is kinda of out of place with the "seriousness" and views of the courtyard, but it was real tree in the courtyard that caught our eye when we walked around. Really, this is the real deal - too fun!
Grandma and grandson in serious discussion on rather or not the Truman statue was life size - the answer is YES! it is life size :D
We didn't walk it but, President Truman regularly walked from his home to the library and back again along with over Independence, MO. The distance between the library and home is about 2 1/2 miles...neither mom or James wanted to walk it with me, go figure *grin*. It could also have to do with the fact the temperature was running about like back home...morning mid-80's already heading towards 100.

Here's the Truman home. We didn't take the tour, though we're sure it would have been really cool. Only 8 folks on the tour at a time given by a National Park Service Ranger. Little tidbits: this was originally Bess Truman's grandparents home, Bess' mom continued (even after Truman was President a 2nd term) to grumble that Truman was not good enough for Bess or would ever amount to anything, and while "courting", Bess would sneak out and catch a trolley a few streets away to see Truman.
Great Time and Stuff!!

Sounds like another highlight in your travels. I'm sure it was something you planned but the input from you mom added to the experience.
